Description: 287 pp. Illustrated with 16 color plates & numerous black & white drawings by John R. Neill. (8vo) green cloth stamped in navy blue, silver & green; pictorial endpapers in dark green on light-green (faded to tan) stock. First Edition, Second Printing. Binding ‘A‘ with cover title still appearing as "The Marvelous Land of Oz". Second printing with the line "Published, July, 1904" added below the copyright notice on verso of title page; illustration on page  has been considerably reduced: the box is 5-3/8" tall. Caption to illustration facing page 23 corrected to "Old Mombi...". This copy with the endpapers in original orientation, denoting an earlier copy of the pressing. In later copies the endpapers were reversed (i.e. Scarecrow and Tin Man in Wagon on the pastedown endpapers). Volume bulks to only 1-1/4" including covers versus 1-3/8"+ of later printings. Bienvenue & Schmidt p. 23. Condition: Some wear and soiling to cloth with rubbing to extremities; hinges cracked, front free endpaper lacking, occasional light staining to interior with some dampstaining to top corners of early pages; overall about very good.
