(Bible in English), Nine leaves from the "Great Bible" of 1540, [London], [Thomas Petyt & Robert Redman for Thomas Berthelet], . Printed in two columns, black letter. 31.2x21.5 cm (12 x8½"), loose. Nine leaves from the Actes of the Apostles, mostly contiguous. The Great Bible was the first authorized edition of the Bible in English, authorized by King Henry VIII of England to be read aloud in the church services of the Church of England. The Great Bible was prepared by Myles Coverdale. This 1540 version is a slightly reduced reprint of the 1539 first edition. Herbert 52. Condition: Some darkening and aging, fore-margins trimmed affecting shoulder notes, a few repairs, one leaf with top corner replaced affecting text; about very good.
