Lot 156: Author: Longus. Title: Les Amours Pastorales de Daphnis et Chloe. Place Published: Londres (i.e. Paris). Date Published: 1779. Description: (iv) , 182 pp. Additional engraved title page and 26 inserted engraved plates. (4to) 23x18 cm (9x7") later full white pigskin, spine ruled in gilt, black leather label, edges of text leaves untrimmed. Translated to the French by Jacques Amyot. The engravings are proofs before letters, a bit smaller than the untrimmed text leaves. A fine illustrated edition. Cohen-de Ricci 654. Bookplate of Herbert Eberhard Hering on front free endpaper. Condition: Light soiling and wear to leather; two waste leaves from another copy are pasted to the original free endpapers; tidemarks to a few plates; very good.
