Illustrated by John Leech with 4 hand-colored etched plates & 4 engravings in the text. Contemporary gift inscription on front pastedown, spine cocked, with a small chip at the top of the spine, faded. Title-page printed in red & blue, its verso & half-title in blue; "Stave I" as first chapter heading, cream endpapers. First Edition. Gimbel's second state, Calhoun & Heaney's first issue fourth state, Todd's first impression. 1843., The Chimes: A Goblin Story of Some Bells that Rang an Old Year Out and a New Year In. Rebacked with original spine laid down. 1st Edition. 1846., The Haunted Man and the Ghost's Bargain. A Fancy for Christmas Time. Illustrated with wood engravings after John Tenniel, Clarkson Stanfield, John Leech & Frank Stone; frontispiece & added title after Tenniel. 1st Edition. 1848. Together five volumes, all in the original red cloth with stamping in gilt and blind, all edges gilt. Housed in a custom chemise and morocco backed slipcase, spine lettered in gilt. Lovely set of Dickens's popular Christmas books, all in the first edition. Condition: Slipcase faded and rubbed, all volumes with some light wear, bookplates; overall a very good set.
