Lot 187: Author: Podolsky, Boris (1896-1966). Title: Atomic Physics - unpublished manuscript by Boris Podolsky, handwritten and typescript. Place Published:. Date Published: 1945. Description: Manuscript comprised of 17 typed pages followed by 38 handwritten pages. Comprised of eight chapters. The handwritten pages are rubberstamped with the date September 1945. In 1935 Boris Podolsky, together with Albert Einstein and Nathan Rosen, wrote a paper called "Can Quantum Mechanical Description of Physical Reality be Considered Complete?" In this paper they predicted that a causal event that takes place at one place in space-time could have an instantaneous effect at another place in space-time - no matter how distant the two locations were. Without the proper technology to test their prediction, it was called "Einstein-Podolsky-Rose (EPR) Paradox." In 1964 solid experimental evidence began to appear that the EPR prediction was correct, and the former "paradox" is now generally referred to as the "EPR Effect." This manuscript is about the recently discovered atomic energy and was meant to explain it to the layman reader. Provenance: From Boris Podolsky's personal collection, sold by his son Robert Podolsky in 2010. With accompanying documentation. Condition: Some of Chapter III "Atomic Weight" is missing. Some wear from age and handling; very good.
