13th century pocket bible could make up to $72,000
A rare 13th century pocket bible will auction as part of a November 23-24 sale of books and manuscripts at Ketterer Kunst in Hamburg.
The lot is expected to sell for up to $71,981.
Known as the Biblia latina vulgate, the book was the smallest edition of the bible ever issued up until that point in Europe.
It still features the elaborate illuminations that adorned bibles of the time, although in miniature.
It soon became hugely popular and was circulated throughout Europe, although surviving specimens are few and far between.
