JD Rockefeller signed Standard Oil Trust share certificate is a collectible item of memorabilia, featuring a rare example of the US businessman’s autograph.
JD Rockefeller (1839 - 1937) was a US businessman who was at one time the world’s richest man.
He is best known for his work in the oil business.
He established the Standard Oil Company in 1870, a move that saw him gain more than a billion dollars as the world grew increasingly dependent on the commodity.
Standard Oil was the world’s largest oil refiner until the US Supreme Court broke it up in 1911.
Rockefeller is known for his philanthropy. He provided large sums of money to religious, educational and medical establishments.
The Standard Oil trust share certificate bears the signature of JD Rockefeller, countersigned by businessman HM Flagler and Louis Severance, the treasurer of Standard Oil Trust.
The 8" x 16" certificate was issued to James Corrigan in 1888.
The certificate declares the ownership of 100 shares at $100 each, which amounted to 1% of the company’s funds.
