Bank of England £1,000,000 note
The largest banknote to be issued by the Bank of England was the £1,000,000 note issued in 1948 as a temporary instrument during the post war Marshal Plan economic recovery and stimulus program. It was intended for use only by the US government and was discontinued after a few months. Very few copies survive, but one came to auction in 2008 and sold for $120,000.
