Matthew O'Sullivan, keeper of photographs at the New Zealand Air Force Museum in Christchurch, has found 45 images of Nikumaroro Island forgotten in an unlabeled tin box in the museum's archives. The photos were taken 15 months after Amelia Earhart's disappearance. Many researchers now believe that this is the atol where she and her copilot lived as castaways after making an emergency landing. The photos will aid researchers in scouring the island for clues in greater detail than ever before.
