Although he is best known for discovering the dwarf planet Pluto in 1930, the first object to be discovered in what is now known as the Kuiper belt, astronomer Clyde Tombaugh also discovered many asteroids. He even called for the serious scientific research of unidentified flying objects and believed through mathematical observation of the outer planet orbits that there was still a very very large undiscovered planet X out there. They broke the mold after Clyde.
