Lot 912: Mesmer Franz: (1734-1815) German Physician And Astronomer. He Theorised On Animal Magnetism, Technique Later Named Hypnosis, Today'S Meaning Of Mesmerism. Rare A.L.S., Mesmer, One Page, 4To, Versailles, 29Th June 1802, To Citizen Aubry, In French. Mesmer Refers To His New Living City, Versailles, And Asks His Correspondent About His Health And About His Plans For Next Summer, Stating 'If You Still Intend To Go Ahead With Your Plan Of Going To Eaux De Bains, And If It Is Convenient To You To Do So Via Versailles, I Could Accompany You: I Would Like To Make A Trip To Alsace While You Are At The Bains To Look For A Small Property Which I May Acquire.', Further Requesting A Prompt Response From Aubry. With The Adressee'S Name To The Verso In Mesmer'S Hand, And A Blind Embossed Stamp To The Left Heading Bearing "Bibliotheque Occulte Du Cte D'Ourches". Left Edge Irregularly Trimmed And Paper Loss To The Upper Edge, Not Affecting The Text Or Signature. G. Aubry Was A Doctor In Medicine, Pupil And Friend Of Mesmer Who Practised Magnetism With Him. Provenance: From The Collection Of Count Of Ourches (1787-1867) Eminent Esoterist Who Spent Most Of His Fortune In Magnetic Experiments And Putting Together A Very Large Private Library With Thousands Of Occultism Volumes.
