Lot 795: Daughter-in-law of Richard Wagner who was a friend of Hitler and ran the Bayreuth Festival after her husband's death in 1930 until the end of World War II (1897–1980). TLS in German, one page, 8.25 x 5.75, personal letterhead, November 9, 1954. Letter to Dr. Decker. In part (translated): "Thank you very much for your kind invitation to the Peer Gynt performance…the last one that I saw was the very controversial staging of the Berlin State Opera—which should be banned, but then was allowed to take place at the express permission of Hitler…Unfortunately I can not afford the long journey." In fine condition.
