Lot 793: French conductor (1875–1964) who conducted the world premiere of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring in 1913 and went on to direct orchestras around the world. ALS, one page, 5.25 x 3.25, January 19, 1920. In full: "I am sorry to send you that only word without any music, but I am not a composer and I have so many favorite works that I could hardly choose!" In fine condition, with scattered soiling. Accompanied by an unsigned original Shelburne Studios portrait of the Monteux.
