Lot 787: Rolland Romain: (1866-1944) French Dramatist & Novelist, Nobel Prize Winner For Literature, 1915. An Interesting A.L.S., Romain Rolland, Two Pages, 8Vo, Geneva, 2Nd November 1914, To Edmond Barde, In French, On The Printed Stationery Of The Hotel Beau-Sejour At Geneve-Champel. Rolland States 'Thank You For Letting Me Know About These Insulting Attacks. I Was Expecting Anything When I Wrote My Articles, For My Conscience Relief And Even For My Country'S Honour. I Knew I Was Destroying My Resting Time.' And Further Comments '"Ich Kann Nicht Anders". Or Maybe, (In Order To Avoid The Risk, Once More, To Be Treated As German, Because I , The Word Of A German Great Mind) I Would Say, Taking Back The Old French Saying "Do What You Have To..".' Rolland Adds To The Foot Of The Second Page, Beneath A Good Example Bold Black Ink Signature, A Footnote Stating 'This Letter Is, Obviously, Completely Private, And Only Addressed To You.' With A Filing Hole To The Upper Part Of Both Pages, Not Affecting The Text Or Signature. Vg.
