Lot 739: Prominent German-Jewish novelist and playwright (1884–1958). TLS in German, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, July 10, 1958. Letter to director William Dieterle. In part (translated): "As much as we do without your presence here, I hope that Europe offers opportunities that bring not only commercial but also artistic satisfaction. We are not bad here. Health I can be satisfied, the work I enjoy, really the more fun, the more difficult it is. Many things are in the making, and I wait with great tranquility, whether they mature or not. If there is something, then I sigh because I'm distracted from my work." Includes three additional TLSs by his widow Marta. In very good condition, with scattered creases and wrinkles (affecting the last two letters of his signature), filing holes to the left edge, and several small edge tears.
