Lot 725: Verdi Giuseppe: (1813-1901) Italian Composer. A.L.S., G. Verdi, One Page, 8Vo, N.P. (Paris), N.D.(1856?), To Leon [Escudier], In Italian. Verdi Writes To His French Editor, In Full 'Would You Make Me The Pleasure Of Coming To Meet Me Tomorrow Morning About 9 O'Clock. I Need To Make Copies Right Away And In Few Hours, Five Or Six Musical Pages'. Some Light, Minor Staining To Each Edge, Caused By Previous Mounting, Only Very Slightly Affecting One Letter Of Text But Not The Signature, Otherwise Vg. Leon Escudier (1821-1881) French Journalist, Critic And Publisher Of Verdi'S Works In Paris. Escudier Helped To Establish Verdi'S Reputation Across Europe. Verdi'S Letter Most Likely Dates From 1856 And The Musical Pages To Which He Refers Would Therefore Be Associated With His Opera La Traviata, Which Premiered On 6Th December 1856 In Paris.
