Lot 720: TLS signed "Tom," one page both sides, 6 x 9.5, The Robert Clay letterhead, March 5, 1956. Letter to his cousin Jim Adams, in part: "I've had no chance to observe your acting or painting gifts but I see from your letters that you a have gift for writing, that you have things to say and are learning how to say them, precociously well for just twenty. But don't work hard on letters you write to me. Don't bother to make corrections. I am not critical in that way. Nobody knows better than I how difficult it is to say precisely what you mean and I am good at interpreting things that are just allusive." Williams types a brief postscript to the conclusion, and adds a couple of handwritten corrections to the text. In fine condition, with a horizontal fold passing through the signature and some spreading to the signature. Accompanied by an unsigned photo of the playwright.
