Lot 702: Strauss Richard: (1864-1949) German Composer. T.L.S., Dr Richard Strauss, One Page, 8Vo, Berlin, 8Th April 1919, To An Unidentified Publisher, On The Printed Stationery Of The Koniglichen Schauspiele (Royal Opera), In German. Strauss Apologises To His Correspondent For Not Being Able To Commit Himself To Providing A Required Contribution, Explaining That He Is Too Busy To Engage In Further Obligations As He Is 'In Between The Administration Of Two Theatres, Berlin And Vienna'. Two File Holes To The Left Edge, Not Affecting The Text Or Signature, Vg. Interestingly, The Typed Word Fruheren (Former) Appears As Part Of The Printed Heading On The Present Letter, Giving A Clear Indication That By April 1919 Strauss Had Already Left His Position At The Berlin Royal Opera, Where He Had Been Conductor From 1899. At The Time Of The Present Letter He Was In Employment At The Vienna Staatsoper With Co-Director Franz Schalk. International Autograph Auctions' Autograph Auction October 2015 Saturday, 3rd October 2015 Estimate: £200-300
