Lot 7005: Magnificent vintage glossy 10 x 8 photo of the band in their iconic gray collarless suits, signed in February 1964 in blue ballpoint by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Reverse bears the photographer's stamp of Dezo Hoffmann. In very good condition, with scattered creases, a few short tears and staple holes to edges, and the first half of McCartney's signature quite light due to poor ink flow. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo, in part: "This photograph was signed in February of 1964, during The Beatles' first historic visit to New York. The signatures were obtained by Marty Ostrow, the editor of Cashbox magazine, who met The Beatles at the Plaza Hotel—where they were staying during their time in New York—which adds tremendously to desirability, being a scarce and highly coveted 'first visit' set of autographs." In order to compete with larger music magazines like Billboard, Cashbox covered more of the international music scene and had picked up on the Beatles before most other American publications. When the Beatles came to New York, Ostrow was invited to meet the band and George Martin to show appreciation for his magazine's generous early coverage. As an iconic original Dezo Hoffman photograph with solid provenance and most desirable size, this is an absolutely outstanding piece.
