Lot 684: TLS signed "G. Bernard Shaw," one page, 8 x 10, Whitehall Court letterhead, June 13, 1929. Letter to H. G. D. Glass, in full: "Do I understand you to say that the letter I wrote to Frank Harris to serve as an appendix to his Life of Wilde is being sold separately as a Memoir by me? I have never authorized any such proceeding; and as I took care to secure my copyright I am in a position to put a stop to it. Are you quite sure as to the fact? Lord Alfred Douglas has at last done justice to himself by writing an autobiography. It is now clear that the suspicion which has done him most harm is unfounded, and also why he exposed himself to it and revived it again and again as a tribute to his good looks. Il Faut souffrir pour etre beau. He has no more to complain of from the reviewers than all writers have to face; and, if he had, he is better able than most men to take care of himself." Central vertical and horizontal folds and scattered soiling, otherwise fine condition.
