Lot 397: Elgar (Edward, 1857-1934). Autograph letter signed 'Edwd. Elgar', Craeg Lea, Wells Road, Malvern, 26 April [1902], to his publisher and concerning his setting of the National Anthem, 'God save the King. With this I send corrected proof of score. I shall be glad to see a revise. I think the notes I have added for Military Band... are a sufficient guide for the conductor. I shd. be obliged if you wd. ask your military arranger to communicate with me before he actually commences the transcription', 2 pages on printed letterhead with marginal pencil marks to recto and verso, 8vo. Elgar's version of the National Anthem originally appeared in his 'Coronation Ode', written for the coronation of Edward VII.
