Lot 353: William Lloyd Garrison
Lot 353: Journalist, editor, and social reformer (1805–1879) best known as one of the most ardent and influential abolitionists in the decades leading up to the Civil War. ALS signed "Wm. Lloyd Garrison," one page, 7.75 x 4.5, December 13, 1856. Response to an autograph request. In full: "My autograph is at your service, though I can hardly be classed among 'distinguished' men, except, perhaps, on the score of notoriety. Excuse me for not having sent you an earlier answer. Yours, for universal freedom." One tiny pinhole between lines, show-through at edges from toned mounting remnants to reverse, and trimmed edges, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
