Lot 218: Scarce unsigned pamphlet by the group 'The Bond' entitled "Two Letters to Gandhi, from Martin Buber and J. L. Magnes," 44 pages, 5.25 x 7.5, published by Rubin Mass, Jerusalem, April 1939. The booklet contains the two letters as well as Gandhi's four-page response. The purpose of the publication is outlined inside the front cover, in part: "We open this series with two letters to Gandhi. They were written independently of one another. This conversation between Jews and Gandhi is the first between Israel and India. This is a significant moment in our eyes." Some chipping to spine and toning and dampstaining to edges, otherwise fine condition. Written by two of the leading Jewish adherents of non-violence, Buber's and Magnes's letters are a response to Gandhi's advice to the Jews of Germany to adopt the tactics of Satyagraha (Passive Resistance) in the face of Nazi persecution. RR Auction's Fine Autographs and Artifacts Auction 466 Wednesday, 9th December 2015 Estimate: $1250-1500
