Lot 191: Scarce ALS in Italian, one page, 5 x 8, Reale Accademia d'Italia letterhead, November 19, 1938. Letter to an "illustrious senator," thanking him for a telegram. In fine condition. Penned a month after Fermi's selection as the Nobel Laureate in Physics was announced, this letter is most likely in response to one of the many congratulatory notes he received. For his discovery of 'new radioactive elements produced by neutron irradiation, and for his related discovery of nuclear reactions brought about by slow neutrons,' Fermi formally accepted the prize on December 10.
