Lot 143: Author: London, Jack. Title: Typed Letter Signed, from Jack London while in Tasmania, to a fellow socialist. Place Published: Tasmania. Date Published: 3322. Description: 8 lines, on half sheet of typing paper, London's Glen Ellen rubberstamp in upper left corner, but with his typed address in upper right, "Mt. Royal Hotel, Brown's River, Tasmania, February 3, 1909." The letter is glued to the back of an illustrated plate out of a London book, depicting Jack and Charmian sitting under a tree. Jack responds to a letter written nearly a year ago, "Dear Comrade Menaker: Please to not think that I have been dilatory in replying to yours of March 22, 1908. When I tell you that it has been following the SNARK pretty well ever since, and has only just now come to hand down here in Tasmania, you will understand. . I am down here for my health, and am still pretty sick, so please forgive the briefness of this note." Minor wear, light stain at right; very good. PBA Galleries' Sale 563: Fine Literature with the Wayne Martin Collection of Jack London Thursday, 25th June 2015 Estimate: $500-800
