The auction of a long lost letter from Neal Cassady to Jack Kerouac has been suspended in the wake of ownership and other challenges brought by the estates of the two writers. The some 16,000-word letter was penned in the 1950's and prompted Kerouac to stop working on an early draft of 'On the Road'-re writing it in a looser style. Both the estates of Cassady and Kerouac lay claim to the letter. It was set to auction at Profiles in History on the 17th of December, where it may have realized as much as $500,000.
