Handwritten note signed by Lev Kamenev, in blue pencil, 7.5” x 6.75” (19cm x 17 cm). In good condition. It says: To members of Board Would it be possible to postpone (to discuss) the Ragaz. Then we can discuss for some half an hour with (Armand) Hammer to clarify my tomorrow’s meeting with Rykov? Signed L. Kamenev No date but the note was written in 1926 when Kamenev served as Peoples commissar of Internal Trade. Lev Borisovich Kamenev originally Rosenfeld (1983-1936) –an old Bolshevik and one of the most prominent member of the Communist Party and Soviet government. He was one of the seven members of the First Politburo, briefly served as equivalent of the first head of state in 1917 and acting Premier in the last year of Vladimir Lenin’s life. Being involved in opposition to Josef Stalin Kamenev fell out of favor and was executed on August 1936 after a brief show trial. Ragaz - The Russian-American compress gas company, operated from 1926-1930. Armand Hammer(1898-1990) -an American businessman, most closely associated with Occidental Petroleum, a company he ran from 1957 until his death, though he was known as well for his art collection, his philanthropy, and for his close ties to the Soviet Union. Alexei Rykov (1881-1938) - was a Russian Bolshevik revolutionary and a Soviet politician most prominent as Premier of Russia and the Soviet Union from 1924 to 1929 and 1924 to 1930 respectively. On 17 February 1937-at a meeting of the Central Committee-he was arrested with Nikolay Bukharin. In March 1938 both were found guilty of treason and executed.
