Autographed sketchleaf of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis
An autographed sketchleaf for Beethoven’s masterpiece, the Missa Solemnis looks set to hammer at auction for over $40,000 tomorrow.
The manuscript remained unknown until 1996 when it was discovered among the papers of his secretary Anton Schindler. Beethoven devoted 4 years to the Missa Solemnis, referring to it in 1822 as his 'greatest work.'
In this sketchleaf, Beethoven pens ideas for the Sanctus, Benedictus, and Gloria sections of the Missa Solemnis.
It is one of the leading lots at RR Auction's current sale which finises tomorrow at 7pm ET.
