On Saturday 22 November, Artcurial organized the last auction of the year for the Comic Strips department. The sale totaled € 3,560,256 / $ 4,711,037 (including fees), exceeding the overall estimate. Once again French and international art lovers and collectors came together on our premises and over the internet to bid on the 400 lots on offer. Artcurial achieved the world record for a work of Corto Maltese at an auction with the watercolor Corto Maltese. The Ethiopiques by Hugo Pratt from 1979 (lot 344) sold for € 391,800 / $ 518,441 (including fees). In 2014, the Comic Strips department attained total sales of almost € 12 million / $ 16 million, + 61 % compared to 2013. A success obtained thanks to work with contemporary artists, as was the case with the monographic auction of Joann Sfar in April, and also to major pieces presented at prestigious auctions, such as “Title Pages from Tintin albums by Hergé” in May 2014.
