Lot 22: (Bible) Author: Stradanus (illustrator), and Philip Galle (engraver). Title: Three engravings from Passio, Mors et Resurrectio dn Nostri Jesu Christi. Place Published: (Antwerp). Date Published: (1584-87). Description: 3 hand-colored engravings, thought to be in a proof state. Each 19.5x15 cm (73/4x6"), mounted to gilt card. Superbly, and likely uniquely, hand-colored. A very rare work, among the high points of sixteenth century Dutch engraving. Stradanus (1523-1605) was born in Bruges, he trained in the shop of his father, then in Antwerp with Pieter Aertsen. By 1545, he had joined the Antwerp guild of Saint Luke or painters' guild. He reached Florence in 1550, where he entered in the service of the Medici Dukes and Giorgio Vasari.
