Sotheby's Break Auction Records in London
Sotheby's broke a number of records in their Impressionist & Modern Art Sale which took place in London yesterday. With a combined total of £186.4 million sold, it was the highest totaling auction to have taken place in London.
Other a Malevich self-portrait became the most expensive piece from the artist sold when it reached £5.8 million along with a Monet which lead the auction with a hammer price of £23.7 million.
The Monet painting, Le Grand Canal was created in 1908 and now holds the record for the highest price paid for one of the artist's Venice view works.
