Rare Jean Cocteau tapestry highlights October auction
A rare tapestry created by the French filmmaker, playwright, poet and designer Jean Cocteau is to highlight the Decorative Arts auction at Hanson's this October.
The Rya tapestry dates from 1963 and is entitled 'Ornaments'. It is one of the last designs Cocteau ever completed before his death the same year.
It was intended to be a limited edition of 50 but very few are known to have survived. It is believed that production ceased owing to Cocteau's death-which occurred shortly after this design was exectuted.
The tapestry is estimated at £1,500-£2,000 and is expected to garner worldwide attention at auction this October.
