Major cat art collection will auction at Dreweatts

A major collection of cat art is to auction at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury later today.

The highlight will be Tsuguharu Foujita’s Book of Cats, which is valued at up to £40,000 ($61,047).

The lot is one of 500 numbered copies published in 1930, which are highly sought after among collectors.

They feature poems by Michael Joseph alongside prints by Foujita.

Other lots on offer include works by “the Raphael of Cats” Gottfried Mind.

The collection was accumulated by Marianne C Gourary, who lived immigrated to New York from Germany in the 1930s.
