Louise Bourgeois’ Spider (1997) to auction on November 10
Louise Bourgeois’ Spider (1997) could smash the record for a work by a female artist when it auctions at Christie’s on November 10.
The sculpture is valued at $25m-35m, with the current record set at $44.4m for Georgia O’Keefe’s painting Jimson Weed.
It’s one of an edition of six and spans close to 25 feet, making it one of the largest in the series. The others are all held in museum or institutional collections.
Another of Bourgeois’ Spiders sold for $10.7m in 2011, then a record for a work by a female artist at auction.
