Lot 610: Darton (William, publisher). Death and Burial of Cock Robin [drop-title], Jany. 31st., 1806, sixteen copper-engraved plates, with verse above and below, printed on one side of the leaf only (i.e. facing pages), sometime reguarded and leaves pasted back-to-back (with corners neatly rounded off), slightly dusty, small purple ink stain to upper margins throughout, later ownership inscription on reverse of first page, original pictorial card wrappers, stained, neatly rebacked with cloth, upper cover with an illustration of a robin within Greek key border, lower cover with a vignette of a kite with a coffin suspended from its beak, titled above and with four-line verse below, 11 x 9cm (4.25 x 3.5ins) Lawrence Darton H255(1): 'This form of the poem has the Beadle, instead of the Beetle, sewing the shroud and introduces three verses at the end, with the grave being filled by the hawk, the will read by the daw and the hare writing the epit Dominic Winter's Children’s & Illustrated Books Auction June 2015 Thursday, 11th June 2015 Estimate: £500-800
