Sketches from Hope's Costume of the Ancients, circa 1820, manuscript title and 63 finely executed pen and ink line drawings, with calligraphic captions, a total of 59 costume plates and 4 other drawings of medals and ornamental devices, drawn to rectos only of unnumbered leaves, some blanks at rear, paper watermarked 1816, contemporary half morocco gilt, joints cracked and covers near-detached, a little wear to extremities, 4to (21.5 x 17.5cm) The majority of drawings appear to have been copied directly from plates in Thomas Hope's 'Costume of the Ancients', first published in 1809.
