Lot 278: Album. An album containing drawings, engravings, and manuscript writings, belonging to Mira Annie Bird, 1856, approximately forty leaves, calligraphic title with owner's name and date, twenty mounted watercolour, pen and ink, and pencil drawings, including landscapes, a knight in armour, portraits, flowers, cartoons, etc., some initialled and/or dated, numerous mounted engravings and a number of manuscript verses and other writings, stitching partially broken, and page block becoming loose in original gilt decorated green calf, rubbed and edge-worn, oblong 4to, together with a lady's manuscript journal written in pencil, dated 1892, detailing a trip to San Francisco via Panama, and containing approximately twenty-nine skillful pencil drawings, mostly head and shoulder portraits of passengers and ship's crew, plus another album, dated 1883, containing three pen and ink cartoons of anthropomorphic animals by W. Foster and a number of photographs, including scenes of South Africa (3)
