Lot 228: Gillray (James). Very Slippy Weather, Raw Weather, Sad Sloppy Weather, Windy Weather, Dreadful Hot Weather [and] Delicious Weather, published H.Humphrey, 1808, six etched caricatures with contemporary hand colouring, each approximately 255 x 200mm, framed and glazed. Six caricatures all relating to weather. The famous illustrated print shows the front of Hannah Humphrey's print shop in St James's Street. This print is self promotional in that it doubles as an advertisement for Gillray's work and Hannah's shop. All the caricatures in the shop window are by Gillray. Humphrey was Gillray's publisher and he lived with her at the premises until his death in 1815.
