Jonathan Clark & Co is an art dealer based in London, specialising in Modern British art.

About the company

The company was established by owner Jonathan Clark in 1986. Clark had previously started his career in the art world in 1973 as a porter at Christie’s, before moving to the London dealer Frost & Reed where he specialised in modern European art, French Impressionists and Old Masters.

The gallery has been particularly influential in the Modern British art market, from its early focus on traditional 20th century works to its promotion of the modernity of the inter-war years.

Since the mid-1990s the gallery has also represented the estates of a number of artists, and has worked with galleries and museums to curate exhibitions of their work along with handling copyright issues and assisting book publishers on a number of projects.

Collection

The gallery holds the largest inventory of modern British artworks in the United Kingdom. It includes works from the most notable British artists of the 20th century, and covers movements from Pop art and constructivism to post-war abstract expressionism and figurative art.

It also specialises in work by the most celebrated groups including the Camden Town Group, the Scottish Colourists, the Bloomsbury Group, the Euston Road School and the abstract painters of St Ives.

In addition, the gallery represents the estates of a number of leading artists such as Ivon Hitchens, Kenneth Armitage, Roger Hilton, Bryan Wynter, Ceri Richards, Eduardo Paolozzi, Adrian Heath, John Wells and Brian Fielding.
