18th century artist Ike Taiga’s The Universe in a Jar is to lead a sale of Japanese art at Bonhams New York.
It’s expected to make $100,000-150,000.
The scroll is based on an old Chinese folk tale of a man who climbs inside a jar and discovers paradise.
Taiga is best known as an exponent of the nanga genre, which used Chinese culture as its inspiration.
