Honore Daumier exhibition to open in Stuttgart
Staatsgalerie Stuttgart’s new exhibition, Honoré Daumier and Pictorial Satire in France, will show work from the influential French comic artist.
Daumier (1808-1879) was resident artist for La Caricature, a publication that ruthlessly skewered the French upper classes.
He was imprisoned in 1832 and the magazine forced to close. Although he swiftly opened up another publication (Le Charivari), it was noticeably less political.
The show will feature work from throughout his long career. The museum owns a complete set of Le Caricature, which will be on display.
