Guy drops glasses, instantly becomes contemporary artist
Gotta love this guy.
TJ Khayatan was slightly unimpressed during a visit to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and decided to test a theory.
He took off his glasses and placed them carefully on the floor, then stood back and waited. Apparently a crowd formed around his glasses and visitors started taking pictures of them, whilst others pondered over the meaning of his 'work'.
I guess this says just as much about the poeple who visit museums as contemporary artists - people will shuffle through, taking pictures of everything without really looking at stuff. I like what the guy said afterwards though:
“I can agree that modern art can be a joke sometimes, but art is a way to express our own creativity. Some may interpret it as a joke, some might find great spiritual meaning in it. At the end of the day, I see it as a pleasure for open-minded people and imaginative minds.”
It would be too easy to pass this off as an "all contemporart art is terrible" story, so I think his prank came from a god place. And the museum later compared his work to Marcel Duchamp on Twitter, so I guess they saw the funny side too.
