Getty Museum's Mogao Cave exhibition to take place in May
The Getty Museum in Los Angeles is to display a selection of ancient Chinese paintings from the world-renowned Mogao Caves in May 2016.
The works date from the 4th to the 14th century AD and indicate the cross pollination that occurred along the silk road trade route.
Jim Cuno of the Getty Museum explains: “This exhibition is the product of years of hard work and cooperation between the Getty Conservation Institute and their partners in Dunhuang to conserve the extraordinary legacy of the Mogao caves, arguably the most important and beautiful pictorial evidence of the transmission of Buddhism along the Silk Road."
