eBay stops sale of 'genuine fake Picasso'
eBay has stopped the sale of a 'genuine fake Picasso' for a second time.
Artist Dominic Currie made headlines earlier in the year by claiming he had found a painting by the cubist master in his attic-when it fact it was a piece he had painted himself.
Currie invented an elaborate tale of how the painting, which he signed ‘Picasso’, was given to his mother by a Russian soldier she had an affair with in the 1950s-a stunt he claimed was performance art to highlight the plight of struggling artists.
The hoax was soon rumbled by art experts however and the listing was removed from eBay.
Currie soon relisted the piece which was again pulled by the auction site-a move he claims was due to nothing more than a listing error.
