UNESCO claim Captain Kidd's treasure not what it seems
UNESCO claims that a recently discovered slab of silver, believed to be from Captain Kidd's ship, that was found in the waters around Santa Marie, Madagascar is actually a lump of lead.
However Barry Clifford, head of the team that found the treasure in May, disagrees.
Sam Brown, a filmmaker working on a documentary about the find states: "UNESCO will attempt to discredit Barry Clifford by whatever means they can. They have exhibited a frankly shocking lack of transparency and impartiality throughout.
"They dived on the wreck site for less than four days in poor visibility and used very questionable methods."
Michel L’Hour of UNESCO dismissed Clifford and Brown's claims: “Did anyone see a single element which would allow us to date the site? How can anyone just get out of the water and say: ‘I’ve found Captain Kidd’s treasure’?”
