Railway Builder Robert Stephenson's Writing Case at Auction
A leather writing box that was owned by the 19th Century railway and bridge builder Robert Stephenson has come up for auction.
The writing box was used by Stephenson while he travelled extensively around the UK on a series of construction projects. In his lifetime Stephenson run the locomotive works in Newcastle,was engineer in chief for a number of railways including the London-Birmingham lines and designed spans like the High Level Bridge over the Tyne and the Royal Borders Bridge at Berwick. He also traveled extensively across the globe as a railway consultant.
The historic case is being offered at Anderson and Garland, who have estimated its value at £400-600.
