Mummified Monk found inside 1,000 year old Buddha statue
A CT scan carried out on a 1,000 year old Buddha statue has revealed the remains of a mummified monk hidden inside.
The statue contains the remains of Buddhist master known as Liuquan of the Chinese Meditation School.
The Drents Museum, based in the Netherlands, already knew there was human remains inside the statue but they were surprised to discover that rolls of paper containing Chinese writing had been placed inside where the organs had been removed during the mummification process.
The statue is to be displayed at the Hungarian Natural History Museum until May.
