It's hand painted. When you open it - the gold hinge around the middle opens up - there is a little hand painted red bow inside. They come in a couple of different colour varieties - one has a blue bow and grey fur. I wouldn't give you more than $100 - that is roughly what these little Limoges dog boxes are worth.

Thanks SamOwen. I have done a little research: Limoges made lots of these in many many different designs. Although I wasn't immediately taken with this one, some of them made my heart sing.

Oh yes, I adore these. There are endless kinds. French flea markets are where to get them a bit cheaper. Avoid eBay though
