Doyle New York is one of the world's foremost auctioneers and appraisers of fine art, jewellery, furniture, decorations, coins, Asian works of art and a variety of specialty categories. Located in New York City, the company also has a network of regional representatives throughout the United States, including an office in Georgetown serving the Washington, DC/Mid-Atlantic area.

The company conducts approximately forty sales each year that attract a broad base of buyers and consignors from around the world. These sales can be attended in person, and bidding is also available online through their website.

Doyle New York regularly works with prominent museums and distinguished institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Brooklyn Museum of Art and Princeton University, providing individualized appraisal and auction services for collections of all sizes.

In addition the company holds appraisal events in states across the country including Washington, Connecticut and Florida.


Foundation and history

Doyle’s was founded in 1962 as William Doyle Antiques, by the late William J. Doyle. In 1973, the company was incorporated as William Doyle Galleries Inc. and from 2001 has been trading as Doyle New York.1

In 1968, Doyle was joined by his wife Kathleen, who assumed the position of Director of Jewellery Exhibitions.


After pursuing an alternative career, Mrs Doyle returned to the company in 1992. After her husband’s death in 1993, Mrs Doyle became Chairman and CEO of Doyle’s.


European Art

Specialist: Elaine Stainton, Senior Vice President, Executive Director, Paintings
Doyle New York presents sales of fine European paintings, drawings and sculpture of the 19th and early 20th century twice a year. These include a wide variety of image types, including Academic studies, history paintings, genre subjects, landscapes and portraits, from all over Europe. The styles represented range from Neoclassicism to Impressionism to Post-Impressionism to early Modernism.

American Art

Specialist: Anne Cohen DePietro, Director, American Paintings
Doyle New York offers American art ranging from the 17th through the 20th centuries in approximately fifteen sales each year. Works span all price levels by a wide range of American artists in a variety of media. The semi-annual auctions of American Art offer important paintings and sculpture by American artists of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

Modern and Contemporary Art

The Modern and Contemporary Art auction presents a wide range of paintings and sculpture from around the world by some of the 20th and 21st centuries' most prominent artists. Works by American, European, Latin American and Asian artists encompass artistic movements from Cubism and Expressionism through the present day.

Old Master Paintings

In its three yearly Continental sales, Doyle New York offers European old master paintings and drawings from the 15th through the early 19th centuries. These include works from Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, England, and Germany, with occasional offerings of Eastern European, Scandinavian, and Spanish Colonial pieces.

19th and 20th Century Furniture and Decorative Arts

This popular auction showcases 19th and 20th century fine and decorative arts reflecting the opulence of the Belle Epoque. Extravagant furniture and decorations of the Louis XV and XVI revivals, Victorian, Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras will be offered, as well as art glass, porcelain,silver, marble statues, bronzes, ivories, mirrors, clocks, sconces, chandeliers, rugs and fin de siecle paintings.

20th century Design

The Doyle + Design auction features Modern and Contemporary furniture, decorations and art by some of the most prominent designers, makers and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

American Furniture and Decorative Arts

This auction showcases important American furniture and decorative arts from the Colonial period through the Federal and Classical styles. Silver, ceramics, mirrors, Chinese Export porcelain, American Indian art, and rugs will also be offered. English & Continental Furniture and Decorative Arts

Books, Autographs and Maps

Doyle New York holds two rare book auctions a year; autographs and maps and original illustration art are also included in these sales. The material listed ranges from early illuminated manuscripts to modern first editions. Autographs include letters and documents by American figures such as Washington, Lincoln, and presidential autographs generally; as well as literary and scientific figures such as Edison, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Twain, Hawthorne, Thoreau, etc.

Doyle New York holds two photography sales (including examples of Photobooks) each year, April and November, in conjunction the Books and Prints sale. They achieve strong prices for 20th Century Photography from artists as diverse as Aaron Siskind, Brett Weston, Minor White, Paul Caponigro, Ansel Adams, Berenice Abbott, Brassaï, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Josef Sudek and others.
