Bakhiari Persian Rugs are a type of valuable and collectible woven rug originating from the Bakhtiara region of Iran.

Brief history and description

Weavers from the Bakhtiara region in Southwest Iran have been producing rugs for centuries, however, their rugs only started to become mass produced during the late 1800s and early 1900s. During this period, Persian Bakhtiari rugs typically had a long, rectangular shape, and were made of cotton, wool or silk, and possibly even goat's hair as well.

Persian Bakhtiari rugs have a specific design that has been passed down for generations and each rug has its own unique style and pattern. By the late 20th century these rugs were manufactured in urban workshops as well due to increasing popularity.

Not just limited to rugs, the Bakhtiara weavers also produced kelims and bags for not only personal use, but commercial use as well.

Guide for collectors

Bakhtiari Persian garden rugs that are 10' x 10' are considered to be the most rare.

Restoration of a Bakhtiari Persian rug is recommended, but only if there is noticeable damage. However, restoring a Bakhtiari Persian rug may decrease its value.
